Becky G's Biggest Travel Hack Is Bringing Tajín Wherever She Goes
The "Shower" singer talks her travel essentials, touring the US, and exploring her Mexican roots in Jalisco.

From starting her career with the hit "Shower" to now embracing singing in Spanish and sharing her Mexican culture through her music, we love watching Becky G evolve as an artist committed to the community. In this edition, singer, actress, and songwriter Rebecca Marie Gomez, better known as Becky G, talks to Kisai Ponce about her most memorable trip, traveling on a tour bus for her first US tour, and connecting with her Mexican roots. She’s currently busy launching her album Encuentros and preparing for her upcoming tour, Casa Gomez: Otro Capítulo Tour.
I absolutely love to travel. I think you kind of have to as an artist! You experience new places, try different foods, meet incredible people, and it is such a natural way to get inspired. Whether it’s a vacation or a tour, the excitement is always there for me.
I went on my first tour across the US last year, and we had a tour bus—bunk beds and all! I was so hyped to finally live that tour bus dream. There’s something magical about being on the road, creating a show, and meeting fans across the country. It was such a fun experience, and I can’t wait to do it all over again.
One of my most memorable trips I have taken was when I traveled to Jalisco with my family. Returning to where my family roots are in Mexico holds a special place in my heart. And I can’t recommend the sunsets there enough—they're breathtaking. That trip inspired so much of the music I’m sharing now through Encuentros. It’s a deeply personal and beautiful homage to my past, my family, and my heritage, while also staying true to who I am today. With my last album, I explored every corner of my journey—those intersections between LA and Mexico. But with Encuentros, it's about finding new meaning in those corners and discovering deeper connections so I knew I wanted to go back to where it all started so I went to Jalisco. During that trip, I was celebrating my birthday, surrounded by family in this magical place where my history began. It was an unforgettable moment, surrounded by food, mariachi, tequila, the whole family - just full of love and inspiration.
I filmed my own music video for the first time in Monterrey for my song "Como Diablos" and it was so special. It was the first time I ever filmed a video in Mexico. The whole crew was so friendly and I felt so at home. It was extremely hot and the filming was so long but I will never forget it. Just the day before, I was singing at the Baja Beach Fest over there and I was performing my song “Por El Contrario” for the first time and I got so emotional. All I could see was a sea of flashing lights and everyone was singing along. I got goosebumps and everything. I remember when my biggest fear was to sing in Spanish but my fans have embraced this journey with me. They connect like I connect to my music and I felt so blessed to be there, in Monterrey, doing what I love doing.
Rapid fire
Window, middle, or aisle seat?
Window because it’s nice to look out when traveling.
Pack light or overpack?
Depends on the trip. I wouldn’t say I overpack, I would say I come prepared. I am the type of person that packs with the mentality of “What if I will need this in the future?” You never know!
Favorite way to pass time on a plane?
Listening to music or audio books. I am a big fan of personal empowerment books. If I’m not sleeping, I am probably listening to something.
Biggest travel fear?
Probably that I lose my luggage.
Best tip for fighting jet lag
Jet lag can be brutal—I’ve definitely been caught in a few interviews with my fair share of jet lag. My trick is to hydrate like crazy, squeeze in a little exercise, and whatever you do, don’t pass out before sunset. Get your body clock back on track!
The one thing you should always pack on a cruise?
Sunscreen!
Top tip for new cruisers?
Just in case, take motion sickness medicine and wear comfortable shoes.
Favorite travel snack?
Anything spicy. I love some Hot Cheetos or Takis. It needs to have a little hot kick to it.
Go-to drink order on a plane?
I wish it was more exciting but honestly anything that keeps me hydrated, which on a plane is usually a bottle of water. It’s boring, but any type of travel dehydrates me, so I know I’m doing myself a favor by sticking with water. I don’t know who I’ve got to talk to about getting coconut water on planes but that would be a dream come true!
Must-have travel items

Sunscreen is a must, such an important part of the skin prep routine! I love the Supergoop! one because it gives you that glow and it's thin on the skin.

If I’m traveling for my tour or taking a much-needed vacation, I always have a refreshing Vita Coco Coconut Juice with me or stock up on it once I get to my destination. A little secret about me is that I love drinks with pulp and this has tiny chunks of pulp that I’m obsessed with. Back-to-back travel can be hard, so whenever I’m in a new city, I seek out my guilty pleasure to treat myself: Vita Coco Coconut Juice and tacos.

I’m a huge foodie! I love to eat but I also love to give it a good kick so Tajín is a must.

I take a journal everywhere! It’s a big part of my therapy but also for writing down any sort of inspiration, an absolute must.

You have to take the party with you everywhere I go. Whether I am in the studio, in rehearsals, or doing promo.
