Walking through the streets of New York City is like getting a front-row seat to a world-class pet show. About 1.1 million pets (600,000 dogs and 500,000 cats) call the city home—equivalent to one pet per every three homes—and there are plenty of businesses that cater to pets who are traveling to NYC with their human owners. In fact, many of the city’s best hotels warmly welcome four-legged friends. From a waterfront oasis that offers complimentary electric cars to a 19th-century mansion that’s now the spot for a swanky night on the town, here are seven pet-friendly hotels in NYC.

NoMad
Inside this renovated, 19th-century mansion, voyagers will find one of the city’s top hotels. Opened in late 2023, The Fifth Avenue Hotel quickly became known for its opulent design touches like crystal chandeliers, whimsical wallpapers, and ruched velvet elevator vestibules. Stepping into the room, guests will find hand-molded stucco, crown detailing, ornate headboards, and patterned rugs.
Why you’ll love it: Guests of the hotel don’t have to go far for good food and drinks thanks to the hotel's resident sultry cocktail spot and swanky restaurant. The Portrait Bar delivers an intimate and charming vibe through its dark wood-paneled walls and inspired collection of paintings, photographs, and drawings. Basically, this spot begs for guests to cosplay as mysterious creatives—thoughtfully conversing about the arts while sipping on chic cocktails. On the food side, Cafe Carmellini is equally as striking with velvet banquettes, towering trees, and a secret second floor seating area. The Duck-Duck-Duck Tortellini and Veal Medallions are can’t-miss menu items.
Why your pets will love it: Dog siblings don’t have to be split up here. Each room is allowed to bring two, under 50-pound dogs.

Chelsea
Home to three of Manhattan’s most-talked-about hotel amenities—Cafe Chelsea, Lobby Bar, and El Quijote—Hotel Chelsea is an ideal destination for pet parents looking for buzzy nightlife and an artistic vibe. Why you’ll love it: The interiors are a throwback to a romantic yester-year. The hotel has retained its bohemian charm through artwork-adorned walls, original fireplaces, stained-glass windows, and iron-wrought balconies. All the artwork within Hotel Chelsea has been donated by artists and creatives who have stayed or lived at the hotel over the years.
Why your pets will love it: Both dogs and cats are allowed, but they can’t be left alone in the rooms.
Pet fee: No fee for one pet per stay, additional pets incur a $50 fee.

Jamaica
Whether you’re catching a flight out of JFK Airport or just fond of plane spotting, the TWA Hotel is a standout when it comes to NYC lodgings. Flaunting a chic 1960s design, the mostly red and white hotel consists of 512 rooms, a rooftop pool and bar, a 10,000-square-foot gym, a vintage plane-turned-bar (called the Connie Cocktail Bar), nostalgic museum exhibits, and more. The hotel just has a few rules: pets are not to be left in rooms alone for more than two hours and non-service animals aren’t allowed in certain areas like the gym, bars, and pool area.
Why you’ll love it: After catching a buzz in the Connie Cocktail Bar, guests can hop to the nearby curling sheets and practice their pushing. Start up a bonspiel (curling tournament) or just work on your form.
Why your pets will love it: They can watch planes take on and off, while lounging in the impressive lobby. There’s also a designated grassy area for going potty.

Financial District
The Wall Street Hotel can be found in the southernmost point of Manhattan. This is especially convenient for travelers looking for close proximity to The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, The Brooklyn Bridge, Governors Island, and The Seaport. The experience here is old-school luxury with details like deep soaking tubs, writing desks, and mirrored bar carts. While you’re not utilizing the upscale gym, there’s plenty of surrounding greenspaces and riverside pathways to go for walks with your pup.

Williamsburg
Since opening in 2012, the Wythe Hotel has been an industrial-chic destination for travelers and staycationers. Think: exposed brick walls, floor-to-ceiling factory windows, and brushed-concrete floors. Located conveniently in the heart of Williamsburg, patrons are just a few blocks from McCarren Park, Bushwick Inlet Park, Smorgasburg, and tons of the city’s best restaurants and bars.
Why you’ll love it: The Wythe Hotel is home to two standout spots for bites and drinks. Le Crocodile, on the first floor, is an exquisite French restaurant serving specialties like Onion Soup with Gruyere, Frisee Salad with Poached Egg and Smoked Eel, and Bistro Steak Frites with Maitre d’Hotel Butter. On the sixth floor is Bar Blondeau. Full of green velvet banquettes and romantic two-tops, the interior of the bar can be just as appealing as its spacious, outdoor terrace. Try a signature cocktail like the Martini Blonde (gin, cucumber vodka, vermouth, lemon oil, olive, house-pickled onion) or a glass of natural wine.
Why your pets will love it: The nearby McCarren Park is one of the best spots for dog walking (plus people watching). Plus, the furry friends can run free in any of the area’s surrounding dog runs. Additionally, bowls, beds, and toys are available for pups upon arrival at the Wythe Hotel.
